Hiking to the Sturgis City Dams: A Hidden Gem in the Black Hills
I recently embarked on one of my favorite local hikes: the Sturgis City Dams, a serene and picturesque spot nestled in the Black Hills. Starting at the trailhead on Deadman Trail along Vanocker Canyon Road, the hike offered an abundance of natural beauty, wildlife, and even some delicious surprises along the way. Here’s an account of the hike, along with tips and directions for fellow adventurers interested in exploring this hidden gem.
My First Bikepacking Adventure: Silver City to Sturgis Along the Centennial Trail
When my friend Eric, an experienced bikepacker from Colorado, agreed to help me with my first bikepacking trip, I was both excited and nervous. Eric's expertise and enthusiasm for the outdoors were reassuring, and I knew I was in good hands. We planned an ambitious ride from Silver City, South Dakota, to my hometown of Sturgis, along the challenging Centennial Trail. With our bikes loaded up with around 60 pounds of gear and water each, we set off on what would become an unforgettable adventure.
